Artist Andy Friedman Gifts Leighton a Custom Card at the 2023 National

The multi-talented artist, Andy Friedman, made a surprise visit to Leighton Sheldon, owner of Vintage Breaks, while at the 2023 National Sports Collectors Convention in Chicago last week. You won't believe the heart-warming CUSTOM present that Andy delivered to the booth.

Andy Friedman collaborated with Topps to create a special Spotlight 70 set of cards, and was kind enough to stop by the Vintage Breaks studio a few months ago to sign a few of his baseball cards for you. The custom cards Andy creates are phenomenal! Imagine a 1993 Topps Finest Black Gold card design on the front with a 1987 All-Star glossy design on the back and a player from a 1980 Topps card. These cards bring all the nostalgia and take you back to when you were a kid ripping wax packs when the only thing the mattered in the world was did mom pack a PB&J in your lunch bag.

The talents spread beyond cards, too. The Yankees manager, Aaron Boone, had Andy create his custom cleats for Father's Day! We knew Andy was on to huge things after this, so we were a bit shocked when Andy paid a surprise visit to booth 2102 at the National Sports Collectors Convention last week. Not only did Andy remember sitting with Leighton and breaking a pack of cards here on Vintage Breaks, he brought Leighton a very special gift.

This is a custom Topps baseball card featuring Leighton and his son, Crosby, cutting the ribbon at the Grand Opening of Vintage Breaks. Andy put his magic touch by drawing that iconic Rookie Cup logo with Just Collect, our sister company, etched on the bottom right, and he added some electric, vibrant colors around dad and cros. Andy's spectacular signature is on the card along with the 1/1 note. Andy not only took the time to make this piece, but he has a very nice auto; SO much better than the modern players that'll scribble a few initials (if that...) on cards today.

We want to thank Andy for dropping off the gift for Leighton while attending the National! Can't wait to have you back in the studio and rip a few more packs, Andy.

Here are a few other unique pieces Andy had with him:

Andy took a 1909-11 T206 card with paper loss on the back to add in the title of his new artwork and signed the back. On the front, you can a whole new background filled with blazing colors. Below you can see where Andy spruced up a 1964 Topps Roberto Clemente card. From complete custom cards to a new spin on a vintage card, Andy is a genius with the paint brush.
